Our Own English High School Al Ain

Curriculum

Learning at ‘Our Own’ takes place in a friendly and supportive environment that encourages positive individual and collective achievement. The scheme of study develops in a manner both structured and flexible while the link between the Kindergarten, Primary, Middle, Secondary and Senior Secondary is integral and phased.

Common to all levels is the development of communication skills in English: non-native learners acquire confidence through specialist teaching, in a manner both enjoyable and efficient.

Pupils’ spiritual growth is taken care of through the teaching of Islamiat and the Holy Koran to Muslim pupils (in Arabic for all Arab nationals and English for others) and Moral Science to those who follow other faiths.

Kindergarten (2 Years- LKG & UKG)

OOEHSAA Kindergarten Students
During this introductory two-year stage, pupils are initiated into the world of learning in a congenial atmosphere free from the pressures of either comparison or competition: skill in communication and numeracy is the primary focus together with a great deal of attention to colour and music, which allow for memorable experiences at individual learning rates.

 Primary School
Grades 1 to 4

During this comprehensive period, pupils’ intellectual, aesthetic, physical and cultural growth and development is gradually intensified and extended through a foundation course designed to suit children from an international and multicultural background. Language skills (particularly those for the English language) are honed through the Communicative Approach while the problem-solving approach teaches pupils to search for solutions, rather than learn by rote, in other subjects.

Arabic is compulsory for all pupils whereas the optional languages offered are Hindi, French, Urdu, Malayalam and Bengali.

A significant feature at this level is the curriculum in Social Studies that is designed to meet the varying needs of Indian, International and Arab Nationals (the last category takes this subject in Arabic as required by the Ministry of Education) in these grades.
